Job Description

The Subject Group of Social Work, Social Care and Community Studies is part of the College of Health, Wellbeing & Life Sciences (HWLS) and part of the School of Health and Social Care.  We have an established track record of delivering a range of undergraduate, postgraduate, and post-registration courses.  There is a broad range of professional expertise within the teaching team with several long-standing members of staff who support and mentor new post holders.  We currently have 1 seconded post in the team providing an opportunity for practitioners to test their interest in academic teaching and assessment.

Requirements:

Applicants must be educated to degree level and have at least 4 years relevant experience. Line Manager agreement for the secondment is necessary prior to application. This post is initially funded for a period of 12 months.  The post holder will contribute mainly to the post-qualifying continuing professional development courses but will also contribute to undergraduate courses in the department including the college’s integrated care curriculum (ICC) which is taught across a variety of professional groupings across the College of HWLS.  The post holder should have some experience of contributing to teaching, training or group facilitation.  A teaching or training qualification would be advantageous.

Essential:

  • Educated to degree level
  • At least 4 years’ experience of working as a Mental Health Social Worker
  • Experience and skills in teaching, training or group facilitation

 

Desirable:

  • AMHP qualified and / or BIA qualified
  • Post graduate qualification
  • Training or teaching qualification

 

Main duties and responsibilities of this post:

  • To contribute to the design and delivery of modules and programmes on courses within the department and to the college’s ICC
  • Carry out module / course evaluation
  • Undertake module assessment & feedback to students in line with University standards
  • Co-ordinate module / course delivery teams for all aspects of teaching planning
  • Supervise undergraduate dissertations
  • Offer pastoral and academic support to students (including individual tutor support)
  • Support to student practice learning placements
  • Maintain an up-to-date awareness of the social care and education environment, particularly considering the changing professional landscape
  • Undertake programme administrative roles as required

Interview

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend an interview in person.

The interview will last 45 minutes and will consist of a 15-minute micro-teach and 30 minutes of questions.

 

Micro-teach: -

Shortlisted candidates will be asked to deliver a 15-minute teaching session.  This should demonstrate an ability to link theory to practice and be suitable for delivery to 3rd year students on a subject related to Mental Health Social Work.  In delivering a micro-teach session you should focus on how you would communicate a 15-minute section of a longer session (standard teaching sessions would normally last 2 hours).
